NeuralOps Decision Layer: route every task to the smallest model that can actually do the job

AINNA NeuralOps is moving into its next phase with a capability we're calling the NeuralOps Decision Layer. The engineering premise is straightforward: most requests that hit a business system have no business being sent to a large AI model.

I spend most of my time wiring these systems together, and the pattern holds in nearly every PKS deployment I've worked on. The bulk of the workload - transactions, stock movements, document intake, routine jobs - is deterministic. Parsers, rules and arithmetic handle it, and they handle it in milliseconds at zero inference cost. No LLM call, no GPU burn, no token budget consumed.

The interesting case is what happens when the pipeline hits something it cannot classify, or a value that does not fit the expected shape. That is the fault line. And the reflex answer - pipe it straight to a frontier LLM - is exactly the wrong move. NeuralOps routes it to a small local decision model first instead: an SLM served through something like Ollama, sitting on the same box or on-prem node as the rest of the stack.

These small models are not there to write essays. They are there to return a tight classification or a routing decision: is this line item revenue or an expense, is this stock delta within tolerance or an exception, does this case need a human or a bigger model? Short output, bounded context, predictable latency.

Escalation only happens when the case is genuinely ambiguous - conflicting signals, an unfamiliar document layout, an edge case the rules never anticipated. Then it goes up to a larger LLM. What you end up with is a clean inference ladder: Data → Parser → System Rules → Small Decision Model → LLM only when necessary.

For PKS running this in production, that translates into concrete operational wins: lower inference spend, fewer tokens burned, tighter response times, data that stays on-prem for the majority of operations, and far less lock-in to a single expensive model provider. NeuralOps is not about stacking more AI into a stack. It is about putting the right level of intelligence at each step - and knowing exactly where the cheap, deterministic path ends.

Masih fikir tentang pipe it straight.

Short and clear. deterministic path ends is worth sending to my team.

Honestly, neuralOps routes surprised me.
