Yesterday, I sat down with the accounts team of a client in Shah Alam. We spent over two hours on one key question - what does a founder of an e-commerce business really want to see beyond the usual accounting reports?

Founders I work with don't need more reports. What they need is to see what's happening right now, why it's happening, what could happen next, and what action to take. That's where an AI-powered system becomes a real permainan-changer for management.

Instead of waiting for month-end, a founder should be able to track cash position, money in and out, receivables, payables, cost against revenue, profitability trends, and cash flow movements in real time. In the e-commerce world, where inventory and cash cycles move fast, the system should also flag unusual transactions, sudden expense jumps, unreconciled items, and other red flags that need attention.

Financial ratios become more useful when AI explains what they actually mean. A Semasa Ratio of 1.45 shouldn't just sit there as a KPI. The system should tell you if your short-term liquidity is healthy, whether it's improving or declining, what caused the shift, and what to monitor next. Same for Gearing Ratio - it's not just a number, but a signal of how dependent you are on debt, whether that's still manageable, and what impact baharu financing might have on your business.

For me, the real value of AI in finance isn't about replacing your finance team. It's about turning financial data into decisions you can act on. A good system doesn't just tell you what happened. It helps you understand why it happened, what's likely to come next, and what steps you should take.
