听力问题
Hearing loss, tinnitus and some balance problems are assessed by KPMC ENT specialists. Otology procedures listed by the hospital include selected reconstructive ear surgery.
Overview
Hearing can change gradually or suddenly. Wax, middle-ear fluid, nerve-related loss and other causes need different care. Sudden hearing loss is urgent.
Common symptoms
- Muffled hearing or asking people to repeat
- Ringing or buzzing (tinnitus)
- Ear pain or discharge
- Dizziness with ear symptoms
Possible causes
- Wax or infection
- Fluid after a cold
- Age-related or noise-related change
- Less often, other ear disease
When to seek medical help
- Sudden hearing loss in one ear — seek same-day care
- Hearing loss with severe vertigo, facial weakness or high fever
- Discharge after swimming or injury
- Hearing that is affecting work or school
Diagnosis
ENT examination is the first step. Further hearing tests or imaging are arranged when indicated — not every patient needs every test.
