Prepare before conception where possible

A preconception review can address long-term conditions, mental health, genetic or kehamilan history, vaccinations, weight, tobacco, alcohol and workplace exposures. Start folic acid at the recommended dose before kehamilan; some health conditions or medicines require a clinician to advise a higher dose.

Review medicines safely

Bring all prescriptions, non-prescription products and supplements for review. Some medicines need changing before kehamilan, but abruptly stopping essential treatment can also be harmful. Check immunity and vaccination timing with a healthcare professional because some vaccines are not given during kehamilan.

Frequent intercourse around the fertile window may support conception, but tracking should not become a source of distress. Fertility is influenced by both partners, and assessment may involve both.

Know when to ask for help

The timing of fertility assessment depends on age, how long kehamilan has been attempted, menstrual pattern, previous treatment and known health factors. Seek earlier advice for very irregular or absent periods, prior pelvic treatment, recurrent kehamilan loss or a known fertility concern.
